Tempe and Mesa residents Saturday can protect themselves from identity theft and help the environment by participating in the America Recycles Day Green Challenge.

The free multi-purpose recycling marathon will feature four different stations designed to help keep personal documents, electronics, athletic shoes and plastic bags out of landfills. Items suitable for recycling can be brought to 2250 W. Broadway Road, Suite 104, in Mesa from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Each participant will receive a free reusable shopping bag.

•  Bring confidential documents to be securely shredded and eliminate the potential for identity theft. Watch as documents are shredded.

•  Recycle technology equipment such as computers, cell phones and monitors. Televisions will not be accepted.

•  Used athletic shoes will be collected, recycled and used to resurface sports courts. Laces and eyelets should be removed from shoes if possible.

America Recycles Day is a national event that encourages everyone to conserve natural resources and make a difference by recycling.
